Posting delicate plants of all shapes and sizes safely and without damage posed a taxing problem for Cumbria based Larch Cottage Nurseries – until they tried cushion void fill specialist Easypack’s innovative Cassette system.
Mail order plants is a ‘growing’ industry, being a quick and convenient way to send all manner of trees, shrubs, plants and garden ornaments. And consumers are welcoming the benefits of home delivery for often heavy, unwieldy or fragile horticultural goods.
The challenge faced is to provide safe packaging that offers support and protection without spoiling. Easypack’s solution is the Easyair Cassette, producing large tubular air pillows of any length on demand, with softness controlled by the packer. With the potential package problems posed by worldwide delivery, Larch Cottage Nurseries found the efficient and inexpensive system ideal – and crucially, they report no damages since use.
Mail order coordinator Lynn Newton said: “Our customers are now commenting on how well packed their plants are and their good condition. I find the Cassette saves so much time packing the plants compared to shredded paper and bubble wrap. We use it for everything - holding plant pots in place, using large pillows to protect the plants, especially the tall ones, and of course the bags are excellent at filling spaces in the box.”
The Cassette machine is one of a range of air and paper packaging solutions offered by Easypack, suitable for many different industries with proven results.
